The Breakfast Co.

The Breakfast Company opened its first store in Crawfordsville, Indiana on January16th, 2018. The Breakfast Company was founded by Doris Kline Maples who began her career in the restaurant industry in 1993 when she was hired by her good friend and mentor, Pete Avgerinos.

In 1993, Pete, along with his wife Debora, were the owners of Elegance Restaurant in Brownsburg, Indiana. Several years later, Pete and Debora would open the first Flap Jacks Pancake House in the State of Indiana on the east side of Brownsburg. Doris had moved on but never lost contact with the Avgerinos family. Upon returning to the Brownsburg area in early 2000, Doris, now married and the mother of her first child, began serving at Flap Jacks on the weekends to make extra money. Family has always been very important to Doris. Working as a server on the weekends, she quickly found a second family with her regulars. Customers have always meant more to Doris than just a paycheck.

Doris went on to have two more children while waitressing at Flap Jacks on the weekends and was a stay at home mom during the week. As the children grew to school ages, Doris and her husband approached Pete with the idea of getting into the business that she had grown to love. Pete laughed (quite a bit) and then began to school the young couple on the headaches of taking on the responsibilities of owning your own restaurant. Pete then did what he is so well known for and took a risk in order to potentially make someone else’s dream come true.

Several months later, Pete called to advise that he had located the site of Doris’ soon to be first store at the intersection of 10th street and Girl School Road in Indianapolis. Little did Doris know at the time, the history of “The Breakfast Co.” was about to
