Friends of Sugar Creek Canoe Race – Rain Date

Friends of Sugar Creek Logo 2017Register the day of the event or advanced registration forms can be printed HERE or picked up at the Visitors Bureau’s office at 218 E Pike Street or call (765) 362-5200 to have one mailed to you.  Mail the completed form to Friends of Sugar Creek, PO Box 291, Crawfordsville, IN  47933.  One entry form per paddler.

Paddlers of all skill levels invited to participate in the 2017 Friends of Sugar Creek Canoe Race on May 20th.  With a USCA (United States Canoe Association) division, as well as a recreational division, there is a spot for everyone to get in on the fun.

The race will begin at Sugar Creek Campground and run 15.5 miles down to Clement’s Canoes / Deer’s Mill Bridge.  Registration fees are $20 for USCA entries, free for active and retired military, $10 for recreational adults and $5 for ages 5-18.  Canoes / kayaks can be rented from either Clement’s Canoes or Sugar Creek Campground or bring your own.  There will be a shuttle service for paddlers who need a ride.

Spectator prime viewing spots include the following:

  • Morris & Jack Bridge at N 225 W (River Mile 38.8)
  • Rails to Trails Parking Lot and Trestle Bridge (River Mile 37.8)
  • Jim Davis Bridge at S 600 W (River Mile 30.1)

Sugar Creek Western SectionAdvanced registration is encouraged or you can register the day of the event.  May 20th the registration table will be open from 11:00 am to 12:30pm where all paddlers must check in and pick up their welcome bag and boat identification labels.  There will be volunteers on hand to help you through the process.   After a safety briefing recreational paddlers will start at 1:15 pm and USCA paddlers start at 1:30 pm.   An awards ceremony will be held at Clement’s Canoes at approximately 4:30 pm.
