In Parke County, explore more than 30 covered bridges as well as old mills and small towns with shops selling antiques and hand-stitched quilts. Bachner Nature Preserve  comprises 28 acres of woodland and includes ¼ mile of creek frontage at the confluence of Rattlesnake and Sugar Creeks.  The stream features abundant macro-invertebrate species, fish and juvenile amphibians, such as soft-shell turtle.  The riparian edge offers excellent habitat for a variety of birds, such as the belted kingfisher.  In addition to birds, the woods support various land wildlife including raccoon, fox and potentially river otter.

Pine Hills is a remarkable example of the natural beauty our state has to offer. Hogback ridges with steep dropoffs, craggy hills, deep gorges and extensive sandstone bluffs are covered with stands of evergreens and hardwood trees.  Trail is a 3.4 mile loop.

Pine Hills is accessed from within Shades State Park.

Visitors will enjoy the features of this pool, which include a splash pad, water slide, Harrington Shelter House and newly renovated restroom facilities.  Admission is $2.00 for ages 5 and up, $1.00 for ages 4 and under.
